— FREQUENTLY ASKED
Exterior cleaning questions, answered.
Pricing, scheduling, the difference between soft wash and pressure wash — everything I get asked most.
General
What areas do you serve?
I serve Cookeville, Baxter, Algood, Sparta, Livingston, Monterey — plus surrounding Upper Cumberland communities. If you're unsure whether I reach your address, call or use InstaQuote and I'll let you know.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Exterior Experts is fully licensed and carries general liability insurance. I'm happy to provide proof of insurance before any job.
Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee?
Yes. If any area of your job doesn't look right, contact me within 48 hours and I'll come back and make it right — no charge.
How do I schedule a job?
Use InstaQuote at exteriorexperts.co/instant-quote for an instant online quote, or call and text me directly. Most jobs are scheduled within the same week.
Do I need to be home for the cleaning?
No. I regularly work on properties where the homeowner isn't present. Just ensure I have access to all sides of the house, the gate is unlocked if there's a fence, and pets are secured indoors.
House Washing & Soft Washing
Is soft washing safe for my siding?
Yes. Soft washing uses pressure similar to a garden hose — the cleaning solution does the work, not the water pressure. It's safe for vinyl, wood, stucco, brick, and painted surfaces.
Full service detailsHow often should I have my house washed?
Once per year is the baseline for most Cookeville homes. Homes with heavy shade or near water may benefit from cleaning every 8–10 months.
Full service detailsHow long does soft washing last on a house?
Most homes in the Cookeville area stay clean for 18–24 months after a professional soft wash. Homes under heavy tree coverage may see growth return closer to 12–18 months.
Full service detailsWill house washing remove paint?
No. Soft washing uses garden-hose-level pressure and will not remove properly adhered paint. If paint is already peeling, I note it before I start.
Full service detailsWhat's the difference between house washing and power washing?
House washing uses soft wash (low pressure + cleaning solution) — the correct method for siding and painted surfaces. Power washing uses high pressure and is for concrete and masonry.
Full service detailsDo you wash the gutters as part of house washing?
I clean the outside face of the gutters (removing tiger stripes) as part of a house wash. Interior gutter cleaning is a separate service I can bundle.
Full service detailsRoof Cleaning
What are the black streaks on my roof?
Black streaks are Gloeocapsa magma — a cyanobacteria. It's the most common roof growth in the Upper Cumberland and spreads by airborne spore. Soft washing kills it.
Full service detailsWill roof cleaning void my warranty?
Soft washing is the method shingle manufacturers and ARMA recommend — it protects your warranty. High-pressure washing is what voids warranties. I only use soft wash.
Full service detailsHow long does roof cleaning last?
Most treated roofs stay clean for 2–3 years. The cleaning solution has a residual effect that slows algae regrowth for months after treatment.
Full service detailsCan you clean a metal roof?
Yes. I adjust pressure and solution for metal roofs to clean without risking the surface coating or finish.
Full service detailsWhat time of year is best to clean a roof?
Spring and fall are both good windows. I clean any time temperatures are above 40°F — which covers 9–10 months of the year in the Upper Cumberland.
Full service detailsWindow Cleaning
Do you clean interior and exterior windows?
Yes, both interior and exterior on the same visit. Let me know when booking whether you want both or exterior only.
Full service detailsDo you clean skylights?
Yes. Skylights are included in exterior window cleaning — I use extension poles with appropriate tools to reach them safely.
Full service detailsDo you clean window sills and frames or just the glass?
Glass, sills, and frames — all part of a standard window cleaning. Sills accumulate significant debris that gets missed when only cleaning glass.
Full service detailsWhat's the best frequency for window cleaning?
Twice per year — spring after pollen season, fall before winter. Cookeville-area homes with heavy tree coverage or high traffic may benefit from three cleanings per year.
Full service detailsCan you clean windows after new construction?
Yes. Post-construction window cleaning requires specific tools for paint overspray, silicone, and sticker residue — it takes longer and is priced accordingly.
Full service detailsGutter Cleaning
How often should I clean my gutters?
Twice per year — spring and fall. The Upper Cumberland's heavy leaf seasons and spring pollen both clog gutters hard. Homes under heavy tree coverage may need a third mid-year cleaning.
Full service detailsWhat happens if I don't clean my gutters?
Clogged gutters overflow against your foundation, saturate the soil, and can cause long-term foundation damage. Standing water also accelerates fascia rot and creates conditions for ice dams in winter.
Full service detailsDo you clean the downspouts too?
Yes. I flush the downspouts as part of every gutter cleaning to make sure water flows freely from the gutter channel to the ground.
Full service detailsCan you clean two-story gutters?
Yes. I'm equipped to work on two-story homes safely. Let me know your home's stories when you get a quote so I can price accurately.
Full service detailsDriveways & Concrete
What causes green and black stains on my driveway?
Green staining is algae — biological growth that penetrates into concrete pores. Black or dark gray staining is typically mold or, near the garage, oil and exhaust residue. Both require more than garden hose pressure to remove.
Full service detailsCan you remove oil stains from concrete?
Most oil stains improve significantly with degreaser pre-treatment and professional pressure washing. Deep, old stains may lighten rather than disappear completely — I'll be honest about expectations before starting.
Full service detailsWill pressure washing damage my concrete?
Not with proper technique. I use commercial surface cleaning equipment and the correct PSI for each surface type. Damage from pressure washing almost always comes from incorrect settings or consumer equipment.
Full service detailsShould I seal my driveway after pressure washing?
Yes, if you want to slow future staining and freeze-thaw damage. Seal after the surface is completely dry — 24–48 hours. I can point you to a good sealer recommendation for Cookeville-area concrete.
Full service detailsPricing & Booking

Use InstaQuote at /instant-quote — it gives you a real price for your property in under 2 minutes based on your home's square footage and services. No email required, no sales callback.
Do you charge extra for two-story homes?
Two-story homes add 20–30% to house washing and window cleaning due to the additional equipment and time required. InstaQuote factors this in automatically.
Do you require a deposit?
No deposit required for standard residential jobs. I invoice after the work is complete.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, check, and all major credit cards. Payment is due at completion of the job.
